Alexandre Chapiro
Biography
Alexandre is a Senior Research Scientist at Meta Reality Labs, working in the Applied Perception Science team. Previously, he worked as a Senior Engineer in Display Incubation at Apple in Cupertino and Senior Researcher in the Applied Vision Science group at Dolby Laboratories in Sunnyvale. Before that, he completed his Ph.D. in the Computer Graphics Lab at ETH Zurich advised by Prof. Markus Gross, while simultaneously working at the industrial Disney Research Zurich lab advised by Aljoscha Smolic. He earned his masters’ and undergraduate degrees in Mathematics at IMPA and at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, respectively, both in Brazil.
His work focuses mostly on psychophysical models and algorithmic techniques leveraged for content creation, especially for novel displays. Alexandre has done work on display topics including high frame rate, high dynamic range, stereo 3D, and on the perception of size, brightness, and color.
