Gordon Wilson Romney (born April 13, 1942) is an American computer scientist and cybersecurity scientist. He is a 3D computer graphics, internet and cybersecurity pioneer. He rendered the first 3D computer graphics images using raster-scan technology as the first Ph.D. graduate student in the Dave Evans Computer Graphics Center of Excellence at the University of Utah (Utah CoE) in 1965. This new department would become the world's primary research center for computer graphics. Ivan Sutherland, who joined Utah in 1968, as his thesis advisor, affirms that “Gordon Romney, [was] the first person to render 3D images.” Light, computer 3D graphics, simplifying processes, data structures, teaching, and helping the under-privileged are his passions. Living seven years among the primitive Maya and Quechua natives indelibly influenced his life goals to make giving service to others a high priority. Romney is currently Chief Information Security Officer for eVisit, Inc., the Forester Wave 2021 Solo Leader in healthcare care platforms and is an affiliate faculty member at Idaho State University.
