Makai Smith is Senior Product Manager at Glodon USA Software where he directs R&D and product development for new applications in AEC design. He was previously Director of Product Management for MicroStation at Bentley Systems, Inc., responsible for strategic direction and leadership of whole-product teams including software quality, technical support, content development, and professional services. MicroStation is Bentley’s flagship product line and also the platform on which its domain-specific applications are based. Makai had joined Bentley Systems in 2007 to serve as product manager to launch Bentley GenerativeComponents, which pioneered the application of associative parametric modeling in AEC. Prior to joining Bentley, he was Director of Digital Fabrication for Kreysler & Associates, a custom architectural composites manufacturer. Makai has also practiced architecture with the Pritzker-awarded firm, Venturi Scott Brown and Associates. From beginning as an SV, he has stayed active in ACM SIGGRAPH: a charter member of the Design Initiative ad-hoc committee, chair of the Studio in 2012 and Design Gallery in 2009, and a unified submission juror. He holds a M-Arch from Arizona State University and a BS in Design from the University of Florida.
