Alex Porter is the CEO and Co-Founder of Mod Tech Labs. Her background in physical and digital design began while earning a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and Construction Technology. As a serial entrepreneur she has founded companies since 2001. Over the last five years, she has worked in emerging technologies focused on powering visual experiences— including AI, XR, IoT, 5G, and more to bring new tools to market. Her work includes marker-less facial tracking using augmented reality, scanning for limbs to create post-surgery recovery clothing, virtual reality 360 video playback, and a driving simulation for motorized wheelchairs among others. Alex has been recognized as a Forbes NEXT 1000 Honoree, as an Intel as a Top Innovator since 2017, and as a member of the NVIDIA Inception Program. She was awarded an Innovation Award by the Austin Chamber in 2019 and as an honoree in 2020. Speaking engagements include SXSW, Siggraph, Augmented World Expo, VRARA Global Summit, Startup Week Austin, and many more. As an avid technologist she has been a member of the Consumer Technology Association helping shape standards and educate on the benefits of technology and is the Chair of the Diversity in XR Working Group. On the human side, Alex volunteers with organizations including Girls in Tech, Seedling Foundation, Black Technology Mentorship Program, and others that further the access, education, and opportunities in tech for underserved communities. Her free time is often spent with her family on walks, cruising the farmer’s market, and movie nights.
