Postcards From the Future
DescriptionPostcards From the Future is a project in which students from Winona State and Bowling Green State Universities, along with coordinator Patrick Lichty (Winona State) and AI created 64 "Postcards" depicting what the world will look like in 50 years. This project was loosely based on the art project "En l'An 2000" (In the year 2000) created in the late 19th Century. En l'An 2000 which was “a series of futuristic pictures by Jean-Marc Côté and other artists and was issued in France in 1899, 1900, 1901, and 1910. Originally in the form of paper cards enclosed in cigarette/cigar boxes and, later, as postcards, the images depicted the world as it was imagined in the then-distant year 2000.” The secret is that, regardless of the hand-drawn quality of the postcards depicted at SIGGRAPH, only one image is drawn by a human (Erin from Bowling Green) all others are created using AI. Viewers are challenged to decide which is the hand-made image.
