Hiroo Iwata has been leading research projects on virtual reality at the University of Tsukuba. His research interests include haptic interface, locomotion interface,spatially immersive display, and motion base. He exhibited his work at the Emerging Technologies venue of the SIGGRAPH every year from 1994 to 2007. He launched Device Art project in 2004. He was the general chair of the World Haptics Conference 2007 and Asia Haptics 2014. He is a professor at Musashino University from 2023.
