DescriptionThe ghost-like virtual image is a crucial problem for optical see-through (OST) head mounted displays (HMDs), leading to low visibility, poor depth cues, and color aberration of virtual content. In SIGGRAPH2002, the occlusion-capable OSTHMD demonstrated a promising way to address this issue by physically blocking the background light. As a part of the Blasts from the Past, we exhibit the latest derivative of occlusion-capable OSTHMDs, which is built by integrating an off-the-shelf OSTHMD (HoloLens 1) with an add-on occlusion module. Our interactive demo provides participants with a first-hand experience of this unique technique.
